Better mood…

Okay. Hotel is officially booked. I am feeling MUCH better with that major step out of the way. Now we at least have somewhere to stay in downtown Waikiki. My husband might have a bit of a drive to work but hey, at least the kids and I will have something to do all day!

Now I need to focus on getting some closets cleaned out and getting rid of the clutter that has accumulated over the past four years. One good thing an overseas move is good for is helping to declutter your house! I was ruthless when we came over here and it felt great. Of course we still have random boxes of ‘stuff’ that haven’t been looked into since we came. But it’s that stuff that we can’t really let go. High school stuff, old pictures, our boxes and boxes of pet supplies (did I mention we met at a pet store?), just stuff that has sentimental value or that we will use one day. I would like to have that stuff more organized than it is now.  Also, all of our winter clothes, what the heck am I going to do with those? While we don’t have a ton, we do have lots of jackets. I guess I’m just going to hold onto them and hope they are still in style in 3 years!

Trying to get back to writing more this week, when I am stressed out this is the first thing to suffer!

Happy Mother’s Day!

Snapshots from this week

Random photos from the week:

Arriving at work right after a rainstorm, sun finally showing up!

Headed to feria!

I think we have one of the prettiest military hospitals around. This is the courtyard in the middle…

I am childish but this made me laugh… SeaBee on a beach cruiser…

Ladybugs are EVERYWHERE! Which is awesome because as you can see, the aphids are also everywhere! I keep catching ladybugs and sticking them on my plants!

Is this just a Spain thing or do they do this in the states? The drive thru at McD’s was long so they had a guy walking from car to car taking orders on a palm pilot dealy.

And we made some cute teacher appreciation gifts for all of our wonderful teachers in our life! M has a teacher at school and at SAC (after school program) O has THREE teachers in his class. Then I wanted to get something for one of his old teachers that isn’t in his class anymore but who he ADORES! Also I wanted to get something for our three lead teachers, so I ended up with NINE (!) teachers to get something for! It ended up being cute, easy and personalized and I hope they love it!

Tomorrow is FRIDAY! Hallelujah!

Rota Feria

Last night we hit up the feria in Rota. Lots of yummy food and drinks and we saw half the base there as well!

Image

The kiddos at the entry arches. Behind them are the rows and rows of casetas, or tents. Each one is sponsored by a different group and has food and drinks as well as dancing.

The same midway as any other fair you may go to full of sketchy games and crappy prizes.

And of course tons of rides that have me questioning my parenting skills as I put my children on them!

Speaking of which:

Oh and this is some shit you ONLY see in Spain:

One of those rocking ship rides, well here there are cages on either end and the kids that go in jump and hang when it goes up in the air. Insane! And super safe!

Ran into a few of my favorite Spanish ladies:

What does your bar not display fresh produce?

Riding in bumper cars, I forgot how fun that was.

It was exactly as much fun as this looks!

M even gave O some lessons on the little cars…

On our way out after midnight, it was still packed. And kids were still running around having fun. Awesome.

Girls, girls, girls

Why oh why do girls have to be so difficult? For once, I am not talking about my own. While getting ready for bed tonight M came to me and was talking about two of her friends that are pairing up and sitting with each other and not with her.  The seating chart is two boys and two girls per table and she is feeling left out. Now this isn’t the first time (and I am sure it won’t be the last) that we’ve had to talk through these issues. Why are girls so thoughtless of how they hurt each other?

This is such a difficult age to navigate, girls just get worse from here.  My boring advice as a parent, find another friend. Hang out with someone who wants to hang out with you.  Sometimes the more you try to hang out with someone, the less they want to hang out with you.  We’ve tried telling her that she shouldn’t allow others to dictate how she feels, but she is a delicate flower like her mother. I know how much it sucks to feel left out, it hurts as much at 30 as it does at 13.

I know this is really only something she can work through herself, and I’m hoping by doing so she learns what is and isn’t acceptable behavior from a friend.  It’s hard because as her mama I want to tell her ‘stop talking to those little brats!’ but it just comes with the territory of having a tween girl.

So ready for this week to be over…

Longest. Week. Ever.

Friday is gearing up to be a busy busy day, it is our feria day at work. Feria is similar to a Spanish county fair and it is a pretty big deal down here in Andalucia. It is a ton of fun, everyone gets to dress up in a flamenco-style dress and look fabulous. Anyways, there has been a ton of planning and decorating going on and it’s really kicked into high gear this week. I’ve made so many tissue paper flowers it’s not even funny.

Immediately after work on Friday I have bunco, which I happen to be co-hosting this month. Co-hosting is actually stressing me out more than just doing it on my own because I can’t nail down a menu or a who is doing what. I need to go over to the location tomorrow and set up tables. Also I don’t have the bunco kit of dice and whatnot and I think the lady that does have it is in the states so I may have to round up 30 dice. Yes, 30 because we are going to have 24 ladies at 6 tables. It’s going to be crazy! We’ll see how many drop out at the last minute because it always, ALWAYS happens. The problem with that is that you have to have multiples of 4 or it doesn’t work.

Crap, now I am worried that the tables at the building are going to be too large. I think they might be the big round tables. Not going to worry about it until tomorrow.

So instead of doing all the stuff I could be doing to get ready for the day, I am instead shopping for vacations. I need to go somewhere but I have no idea where I want to go. Well actually I have too many places I want to go. Mallorca, Greece, Croatia and Holland are on my maybe list. Trying to get to one more place we haven’t been before we leave.

Now I am going to try and go to bed before midnight tonight, if my brain ever decides to shut off!
