I win at procrastination (alternate title – How to phone it in)

So. Ugh. I am just sucking at everything right now.  I have this horrible habit when I am feeling overwhelmed of just not doing anything. I have TONS of stuff I NEED to get done, homework, housework, but instead I will ignore the piles of laundry and ride my couch.  It is the worst habit ever and I was really hoping that as I ‘matured’ it would stop. Nope.

So, meanwhile I have hours of homework that I need to do that I will probably wait until the very last possible second to get done. I am down to my last two classes (cue chorusing angels) before I am done with school and I have a life threatening case of senioritis.  I am honestly rethinking my plan to start working on my Master’s in Hawaii because the though of more school makes me want to throw up. Hoping that a) taking a break for a few months will help b)I won’t be working which will mean less stress and more time and c)I’ll be doing classes in person which I love SO. Much. More! I get to talk to people! But first! I must make it through these last two damn classes. C’s get degrees right? That is my mantra this semester!

Also my housework. It’s embarrassing how much I have been failing in this aspect! When I was a SAHM or even working part time I was all about the Fly Lady and I generally kept my house looking good. While it might have some mess, it was clean. Now, not so much. I seem only able to get laundry done on the weekends, and then it takes me forever to get it folded and put away (I try to convince my husband that searching through piles of clean laundry for PT gear is like a scavenger hunt). There are pretty much always dishes in the sink, and please oh please don’t look at my shower.

Oh yes then there is trying spend time with my kids, my husband, scrapbook (so, so very behind) and possibly think about PCSing in the next few months. My brain is just fried!

I wish I could say that I don’t have time to get this stuff done but that isn’t true. I am just the worst about actually making myself do it instead of cuddling up on the couch after dinner and surfing the internet or watching tv until bedtime.

I know I am not going to magically wake up tomorrow with a new attitude and abundance of energy but maybe just getting it all out there will help my brain (and my teeth because I can feel I have been stress clenching my jaw at night).

Oh and two things I have been rocking it at lately? Work – have gotten TONS of compliments from both parents (my customers) and my boss about what I do. I LOVE feeling appreciated when I know I am working my butt off. Also? Eating! I have gained 10 pounds in the past year! WTF? So I think it is about time for me to get back on WW. Even though I’ve been loving Paleo, I’ve been cheating WAY too much. Maybe just making myself journal so I don’t eat a bowl of cereal at 10pm. Oh vey.

These CRAZY caterpillars!

One of the nuisance animals in southern Spain is a caterpillar.

Not just any caterpillar.

We have one in particular called the Processional Pine Caterpillar.  Now this may come as a surprise but they live in pine trees (shocker!). The processional part of their of name is where it gets interesting.  The walk all together lined up in a little (or rather long) line.

It’s pretty interesting actually, they only come out during this time of year so you know when to look for them.  The funny thing is this I’ve lived here for 3 1/2 years and this was the first spring that I actually saw them!

Now as cool as they look the problem is that their little hairs cause lots of problems in people and pets if they are touched (or eaten by your dog!) They are super irritating and I’ve heard of people having them in a jar in the house and the hair still irritating their eyes. They are bad news, health wise!

Also if your dog gets the hairs in their mouth it can actually cause the tongue tissue to die! Crazy! Thankfully we have NO pine trees near our house, just palm trees with their own sets of problems!

If you happen to see any of these caterpillars, look but PLEASE don’t touch!

Valentine’s Day Recap

Totally phoned it in this Valentine’s Day.

I was planning on getting up early and making the kids a cutesy breakfast of pink heart pancakes… well, I overslept a bit.  Rushing around getting everyone and everything ready for the day and M asks me if I am making a special breakfast. Sorry honey, no!  So she makes a couple of poptarts and right before she eats them I pop over and use a heart cookie cutter on them.

There, there is your super special Valentine’s breakfast.

Then my husband calls me at work to ask me to run home and let the dog out on my lunch break because he wasn’t able to… I run home and see the dog sitting outside the patio door.  I call my husband and ask what the heck is he talking about, the dog is already outside.  He asks where I am and I say right by the door looking at the dog.

Let the dog inside then a few minutes later walk back outside with him with his lunch and see a huge bouquet of flowers laying on the table. Duh. So I called my husband and said oh yeah, saw the flowers. Sorry I am oblivious! He also gave me a new watch which was greatly appreciated because I just busted the crystal out of my watch the day before. Yay!

Was going to make a nice steak dinner for the family but didn’t feel like stopping at the commissary to pick up steak after work. So somehow we had a very polish Valentine dinner. Kielbasa, sauteed cabbage and pierogis.  I don’t even know.  But it was yummy.  We’re planning on going out this weekend for dinner, weekdays are too crazy.

Hope everyone had a lovely day with plenty of chocolate involved!

Sick day… well, sick afternoon

I am sick.  Wasn’t feeling great this weekend but was hoping I was on the mend.  I made it through half a day of work and then called it quits.  Sore throat, sinus pressure, I was a hot mess and not the most welcoming sight at a reception desk! So home I went.

Of course M had an orthodontist appointment scheduled for today but my husband said he would take her if I just picked her up from school and had her ready at the house. So I go to pick her up and of course, OF COURSE, her appointment is almost the same time as the spelling bee that she happens to be an alternate in. She is not happy. I am feeling like a parenting failure because I didn’t have it marked on the calendar. I don’t even know what an alternate DOES!  Now if she was for sure going to be in it I might have called to cancel the appt (just so they can write bad things in my file and take another 2 months to get another appt) because the winner of the spelling bee gets to go to Germany (with a parent excort! For free!)

Lesson learned: For God’s sake, write EVERYTHING on the calendar! My old brain remembers NOTHING!

Now off to drug myself so I can hopefully function tomorrow!

This is just a test

Just seeing how well posting from the WordPress app works… It would probably be better if my iPod or iPad took pictures and I could post those as well. Not too shabby, but I don’t think I could ever really type something longer than a few words as I HATE typing on this flat screen!

It’s the Little Things {Pinterest & Curly Curls}

Taking a minute to recap the little things that made my week!

First off, after trying to stay away for months, I am officially addicted to Pinterest. It is absolute pure evil but I have found SO many great ideas for M’s birthday party next week.  If you are on Pinterest come follow me, here!

Next up I did try one of the hair ideas I found, no heat curls. Super easy, involves a headband and sleeping with your hair looking crazy but when I woke up my stick straight hair looked like this:

Blurry picture but my hair looked great!

Beeswax and rosemary (so it looks and smells good!)

Also had a great dinner out with friends at one of my favorite restaurants 100 Montaditos this week.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Linking up with Lindsey from Aisle to Aloha for the Friday link up party!
