Baby steps toward Hawaii!

And I mean really baby steps, nothing big.

Last week I took the dog to get his second rabies vaccine so we don’t have to quarantine him when we get to Hawaii.  Next month he’ll have to go back and get blood drawn so it can be sent off and tested, making sure he is totally rabies free. Yay!

Although he had me rethinking taking him this weekend.  I noticed him acting a little funny so I let him outside and walked with him… What does this dummy do? Hork up a pair of my underwear and one of my son’s socks.  And yes barfing them is preferable to an intestinal blockage but dang it, stop eating everything!

The next thing isn’t REALLY even a step, but I had ordered a copy of Oahu Revealed (by Andrew Doughty) I have been having so much fun paging through and planning all of the awesome stuff I am going to be doing soon!

We have a book here in Rota that pretty much everyone uses, it’s called 40 Day Trips from Rota. It is wonderful.  While it doesn’t have as much information, it is so helpful on navigating some of the crazy Spanish roads, towns and customs.  I received my copy when a friend moved but I don’t know if I’ll be able to pay it forward, I want to keep it as a souvenir!

Thank God for Amazon!

So. After procrastinating waaaaaay to long I’ve finally gotten a pretty good start on Christmas shopping.

As always Amazon came to the rescue.  I’ve knocked out my mom and sister, aunt from our family gift exchange and will probably end up picking up some stuff for my brothers on there.  Ebay was also good to me, as always, looking for an obscure gift for my husband. Some people hate that site, but I LOVE it.

The kids are pretty much done, I am upset because I hesitated in getting O the LeapFrog Leappad and now it is sold out EVERYWHERE and of course our NEX doesn’t have any new toys like that.  Stupid me, I should have just ordered it when I had the chance. Who knew it was going to become the hot new toy this Christmas.  Honestly I don’t know if I’ve ever met a kid who likes toys less.  He says he wants toys for Christmas but couldn’t actually name one toy that he wanted. He has a playroom FULL that NEVER get played with.  I wish we still had friends with kids his age so they could come play with these toys!

I am scaling back on the amount of gifts this year.  I feel this guilt every year that if my kids don’t have a ton of gifts to open on Christmas that the day will be ruined. And I am always going out buying more stuff at the last-minute as ‘fill-in’ items.  And I always buy stuff that I think they will like instead of stuff they actually want. And over the year, it hardly gets played with because my kids like to play with video games and play outside. That’s it.  Books are one of the big gifts this year, both kids asked for more and that is something that I will never refuse them.  M asked for the last Harry Potter and I’m hoping my mother in law gets the whole series for her. She has been tearing through it, finally!

It’s amazing how much better I feel knowing that I have a good chunk of my shopping done with a few keystrokes.  I wish I could do more shopping at malls but I honestly have no time and no energy!

Slowly but surely I think I’ll actually be ready come Christmas Day… How about you? Are you ready or are you getting dragged, kicking and screaming, into the holidays?

10 Day You Challenge ~Eight Fears~

These are the worst! Doesn’t everyone have the same fears? Anyways, here goes:

8) Loosing my teeth, bizarre but I have this nightmare every once in a while and it freaks me out.

7) Spiders, without question. HATE them. So glad my four year old son will now kill them for me.

6) Driving off a bridge with my kids in the car.  I got in a pretty bad accident on a bridge when I was a kid. An 18-wheeler hit our little car and I thought we were going to fall off. The worst! Now I’m really paranoid about going off a bridge, its really insane. I think about how I will get the kids out of the car, my oldest can swim so now I don’t have to worry about trying to swim with two children, its so crazy that I really think about this!

5) Millipedes in my shoes. Happened once as a kid, now I have to shake my shoes out anytime they are left outside.

4)Losing my family photos. Really shouldn’t happen. *knock on wood* I have everything backed up and I am about to double back up by sticking it all in cloud storage.

3) Losing my family. Yuck can’t think about it.

2) That our orders to Hawaii will get cancelled.

1) That by they time I’ve really figured out this deal called adulthood, I am going to be heading into middle age!

Avoiding the Christmas to do list…

I am feeling VERY overwhelmed by Christmas this year.

I LOVE this holiday, I love decorating, shopping, baking, cooking, all of it.

For some reason I am just not getting excited this year. Maybe its the fact that this is the first year that I am working outside of the home full time… That plus school is just making me wonder where on earth I am going to find the time to pull everything out and get the shopping done.

I keep seeing facebook posts from my friends who got all their shopping done on Black Friday and had their decorations up this past weekend. Good for you, I am hoping to have my tree up before Christmas and hope everyone I have to buy for has a wish list on Amazon.

Maybe once I get my decorations out I’ll feel a little more into the season, but at this point I am feeling very grinchy toward Christmas! Isn’t Santa supposed to take care of all the kids toys anyways?

Date night!

So tonight is my belated birthday/anniversary dinner out with my husband… I think I finally decided to go out to Bar Jamon.  I’ll have to take some pictures of what I end up ordering.

Took one of my friends to the mall today, Las Dunas in Sanlucar.  I LOVE that mall, H&M, Sfera, Zara, Casa and 100 Montaditos, my favorite sandwich place ever!  Picked up some new fall stuff, some 10 euro jeans at H&M, managed not to just buy a crapload of stuff for the kids like I usually do.  For anyone moving to Rota, don’t worry that you won’t have anywhere to shop. Between Las Dunas, El Paseo and Area Sur mall (all within 20 minutes) you are set. Plus if you want to drive a little further out you can hit El Corte Ingles which is a department store similar to Macy’s.

Tried not to buy TOO much winter stuff since hopefully this will be my last winter for awhile! I actually don’t ever really like to wear winter clothes. Not a huge fan of long sleeves or sweaters. I generally wear short sleeves and then layer!  I really wanted to buy some flat leather boots but all the ones I found were around 130 Euro which translates to a hell of a lot of dollars. Ouch. I’ll have to put them on my Christmas list!

Off to get ready so I can go pick up the sitter, while I LOVE my sitter I really really wish she could drive!

It’s mah Birfday!

Well it was yesterday anyway… Had to work all day and was planning on going out to eat for dinner but by the time I got home I was rethinking it.  M had football practice and wasn’t going to get home until 7, by the time we all got ready it would be 8ish then maybe to the restaurant at 8:30. While most restaurants in Spain don’t even open for dinner until 8, I didn’t want to have the kids out too late on a school night.  It is not uncommon to see kids in restaurants and bars until 10 or even 11. Our kids love it but only on the weekend!

So I rescheduled my birthday dinner for this weekend, and actually turned it into a birthday/anniversary dinner (our anniversary is tomorrow) and got a sitter.  I am really looking forward to going out, not sure whether or we are going to go to Bar Jamon or Los Argentinos… we haven’t made it to either one. Los Argentinos is closed on Mondays and that always ends up being the day we try to eat there! Bar Jamon is traditional Spanish food, with some of the best paella around… Los Argentinos is an Argentinian steak place that is supposed to have great meat.

My kids are already coloring pictures for the babysitter… O had been begging me to have her come babysit a couple of weeks ago. I guess mommy and daddy need more date nights!

NO more procrastinating, I have a ton of homework to do and I can’t put it off any longer!
